Teaching and Learning Sequence Visual Art Term 4 2017

Students will

  • ●  Investigate and develop visual ideas in response to a variety of motivations, observations and imagination.

    Heavy duty cardboard Craft knives
    Scissors
    Hot glue guns

    Paint
    Paper
    Ipad for photos
Lesson Sequence:
Session 1
  • ●  Investigate birds (real and cartoon) “what do you notice?”
  • ●  Identify key shapes, sizes, features, etc
  • ●  Initial drawings of birds, simplifying the shapes


  • Session 2
● Draw bird parts onto heavy-duty cardboard, making sure that each part is separate. These need to be large but in perspective. Cut out & name.


Session 3
● Undercoat all bird pieces with white paint






Session 4
● Put the bird pieced onto the floor and put them together. Draw another copy onto A3 newsprint and colour. Before they move off, discuss colours, complementary colours, shapes and patterns.

Session 5
  • ●  Share and discuss drawings ­ strengths, design pluses etc. Allow time for those who wish to rework their drawings.
  • ●  Paint warm colours only or cool colours only (saves everything from turning to mud).
  • ●  Also include pattern for impact. Layer up from a base colour.



Session 6
  • ●  Take photos of birds set out.
  • ●  In pairs students give each other feedback and feed forward. Make notes on the photo.


Session 7
● Add finer details with neon or metallic paint.



Session 8
  • ●  Once happy with painting effect, outline and highlight with black vivid or sharpie.
  • ●  Hot glue gun pieces together.





Session 9
● Write a fun description of the bird using the artist’s first name, Eg The Logan Bird...
